Recycled backpack: Cecilia and her mom Susie made this from Cecilia's grandmothers' old wool and leather coats. The main brass zipper is taken from a coat, too!

Ira is only 5. While I fed the fabric through the machine, he operated the foot pedal - sometimes with his head or belly :) We made a stuffed sea monster.

The top layer of the eyes was a scrap of window screen. Ira loves the rigid materials in the scrap pile - he gets visibly excited about pieces of vinyl or thick foam.

Lucy made a 4" tall body, drawing the lines in pencil & tracing them on the machine with thread. Next it must be flipped inside out with a pair of tweezers. Painstaking work...
